Android Released
Pretty big day for mobile software today. Google has released their Android “platform”. Basically its an open-source operating system for mobile phones. In effect, if the phone is the new PC, then Google have clearly said they”re going to be the new Microsoft. My only question is, how do they intend to monetize it? Sure the future of mobile and location based advertising is hugely exciting, but its hard to envisage how Google can leverage their position if its an open source platform. By giving away the full source code, Google aren”t even requiring companies to leave in their ad-serving, effectively negating the benefit of being the project’’s “guardian”. Anyway, here’’s a video of Sergey, he’’s pretty cool.
